A
t the Independence Anniversary Interdenominational Church Service that was held at the Deeper Life Bible Church Headquarters in Lagos, Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi, read John Chapter 1 verse 6 and the Book of Psalm Chapter 105 verse 17. He told worshippers that God sent Joseph, Moses, Joshua, David and others to preserve and protect the lives of the Children of Israel. From Abraham to Zachariah, God has always been using personalities to actualize his objectives.
Kumuyi said, “Today, God is searching for yielded men and women and we are among them.” He made it known that in every chosen field of human endeavour, the Lord has people for a purpose. In the first subtitle of his Independence Sermon, “The Significance of a Man in Every Generation,” Kumuyi noted that in every community, God chooses a man to fulfil a purpose which was the case during the days of Joseph who God used to preserve the lives of the children of Israel in Egypt. God is always looking for a man who is significant in his sight, a man with the saviour’s pardon and strong persuasion with a guiding purpose.
The man of God added that God needs a man with strategic programme because without strategy nothing can change. God also wants a man with sound principles, a path to follow and selfless perspectives. Just as David served his generation, God expects everyone to serve progressively and selflessly. Pastor Kumuyi noted that Jesus Christ paid the supreme price for men and he is looking for men to render service as well.
Presently, sincere servanthood is what the present day generation clamours for with special grace and godliness. Kumuyi explained that sustained support for the grass root is paramount like Modecai who was able to mobilize the Jews and emerged a major factor in the Medio-Persian kingdom. Another major factor for this generation is surprise strategies with ground breaking goals, “God will give us wisdom to be a problem solver and gives us the solution, let us stop saying what will I get out of it,” Kumuyi advised.
Emphasizing on Jesus as the saviour of men in every generation, Pastor Kumuyi said that Jesus is the sacrificial lamb to all sinners and lover of souls. He is the sufficient lifeline that can save and protect men from difficulty including insurmountable challenges.
The chief host of the Independence Interdenominational Service, Governor Akinwumi Ambode of Lagos was amazed by the mighty edifice of the Deeper Life Bible Church. The Governor revealed that he chose the Deeper Life Headquarters Church for the Independence Anniversary, as a payback for his failure to attend the opening ceremony. The magnificence edifice with architectural aesthetic design was opened for worship in April. He enjoined Nigerians “To be steadfast and respect the values of its founding fathers, everyone must work together to achieve the potentials.” The message of hope and integrity should be projected.
Ambode appreciated Pastor Kumuyi for his dedicated service to God including his transformational approach to religion in the country. He commended Deeper Life for its exemplary Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for building the Oduwole Bridge to ease traffic in the Gbagada axis. Ambode said Lagos State Government will construct more roads in Gbagada and its environs adding that Christians should continue to pray for the progress of the country and that the best is yet to come.
Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, was elated as he began with song before his speech, “talodabi Olorun wa talodabi Olorun wa, talo le se bi Olorun wa,” no one is like God and none is as powerful as God.
Osinbajo thanked Pastor Kumuyi for attending the Independence Anniversary programme that was held at Abuja and organised by the Federal Government. He appreciated Kumuyi’s kindly words, labour of love and prayers for Nigeria.
Reading from the Book of Hebrews 11 verses 24 to 29, in his sermon titled “Coming of Age,” Osinbajo explained that when Moses was of age he refused to associate himself with evil. Moses rejected things that were inimical to his faith and belief.
According to Osinbajo, just like Moses, “Nigerians should come of age and reject corruption, ethnicity and shun evil.” As it happened during the days the Israelites in Egypt, the country will cross the Red Sea for freedom. Quoting 2 Chronicles Chapter 7 verse 14, Osinbajo encouraged “Nigerians to humble themselves, pray and turn from their wicked ways.” He added that prayers should be made for God to heal the land.
The VP asserted, that as the nation comes of age, its destiny lies in the hands of its people. He noted that God has promised that his people will not be put to shame and there will be plenty for all. He will also preserve his people from evil and danger.
Meanwhile, more than forty thousand worshippers attended the Interdenominational Service as choristers from various sections of the church showcased their mastery in songs and musical instruments. Worshippers were regaled by the Youth Choir as they were entertained with saxophone. The saxophonists held on for long while the congregation applauded.
There was special rendition by the Anniversary Choir who coincidentally, were born on October 1st 1960. They are now 58 years old.
Indeed, the Special Independence Anniversary Service brought showers of blessings to worshippers and the land has been spiritually healed.
